When they called him back he hopped down and walked back there like a big boy. His dentist is a pediatric dentist, so things were different than other dentist offices I have been in before. They didn't have the normal chair, but a cushioned table for them to lay on and a TV mounted on the ceiling. They turned on Dora the Explorer for him and set him up with headphones to listen to the TV, sunglasses to keep the light out of his eyes and a Care Bear to hold on to while they worked on his teeth. I was so upset with myself for not bringing my camera! He was too precious lying there with all of his gear.
He actually opened his mouth and let them clean his teeth, but that wasn't my biggest surprise of the visit. The hygienist decided to try and get x-rays. I thought "Uh-oh, this is the end of the good visit!" Again, Sean proved me wrong. He sat there like a champ and did just what she told him to do. She took x-rays of his top and bottom front teeth. When she was done she gave him a box of stickers to pick out one for being so good. Then she decided that since he was so good she would try to get x-rays of his back teeth. Again, he did a great job and sat real still for them. So she gave him the box of stickers again and told him he could pick out another one for being extra good.
As she was writing something down in his record, she asked me about his wheat allergy. Her daughter has been put on a wheat free diet and she was asking me questions on how we manage on a wheat free diet. We got deep into our conversation and then we looked at Sean, who was quietly sitting in the chair. He was so quiet because he was covering himself with stickers!! So we scooted him out and back to the table to wait for the dentist. The dentist said his teeth look great. We have to go back in another 6 months to check on his top teeth again. The chipped tooth is starting to get a bit darker than the others. She is concerned about it becoming abscessed, so she has been keeping a close eye on it.
Here is a picture of Sean with all of his stickers and his new toothbrush. He also got a "I have clean hands" sticker when we went to lunch at Rudy's.
Sean is showing off his report card. He scored a 2 today. Zero is the best and 30 is the worst. If he gets a score of 5 or less next visit he will get a free t-shirt!

Aw! What a cute little sweetie!! I'm glad he did well at the dentist. That was always quite traumatic for me at his age.
Good job, Sean!! Our dentist doesn't give report cards - just a long, detailed invoice of what I owe!!
Justin had a "dead" tooth when he was that age and we eventually had to have it removed in a day surgery place when he was about four - to prevent an abcess. It worked out okay though, no problems at all.
