Rain, rain and more rain!!

The girls and I went to the library this afternoon. As soon as we stepped out of the library to go to the car it started to POUR down rain! It was quite comical to watch us try to get to the car and keep the books dry. You would think with all of this rain we have been having lately we would have brought in the umbrella, but no, of course not! Hannah volunteered to run to the car and get the umbrella. She went and got it and then came back and took half the books and Rebeckah had half the books and they headed to the car. They couldn't walk at the same pace so there was a lot of fussing going on to the car. I just ran to the car taking my chances. The real fun started when they got to the car, tossed the books in the car and then couldn't shut the umbrella. The books were dry, but the girls were soaked by the time they got the umbrella closed.

Today we gave in and let them play in the rain this afternoon. Sean had a blast!! Here are some pics:

Now they are all tucked in bed reading their books. (I checked out books for the boys and Rebeckah found a book for Austin.)

Lunch Date

Today Chris took me out on a lunch date. It was so nice to get to spend some alone time with him. We left Rebeckah in charge of the kids and headed out to a local restaurant. It was so nice to have a quiet lunch with Chris and talk and plan for the upcoming school year. I can't share what we talked about because Rebeckah and Austin read this blog from time to time. (At times I think they are the ONLY ones that read this blog.)

The portions of food there were so large I had to bring over half of my lunch home. The kids hadn't eaten lunch yet (we got back at noon), so the older four ate my lefteovers for lunch. Due to Sean's allergies, he had his own special lunch.

I had hoped the kids would play outside or go swimming today, but it has rained off and on all day. I am so thankful for the rain, but at the same time.....enough is enough!! So instead of the kids being outside, they are watching t.v. this afternoon. Hannah and Matthew are watching t.v. in the sunroom while Rebeckah and Austin are watching Cities of the Underworld on the History Channel. Sean loves Sponge Bob Squarepants and he loves to sing along with the songs. Today as he was watching Sponge Bob I decided to tape him. He didn't quite get what I was doing because I was using our digital camera to tape him so he would stop and pose for the camera. Finally I got him to sing some and here is what I got:

Ramblings

Nothing really exciting is "happening" with the Holders right now. It is your typical family stuff right now.

After a crazy week of Backyard Bible Club and kids here nearly all day every day last week, we just hung out at the house as a family on Saturday. We watched watched a couple of movies and played video games. It was nice and relaxing to just have family time.

Sunday was busy at church. We had 20 visitors in 1st through 4th grade. For those that don't know....Chris and I serve at the 1st through 4th grade Children's Ministry desk during second hour. We greet and check in visitors and do the paperwork involved. It was crazy with all of those visitors, but a good kind of crazy. Nearly all of the visitors had attended a Backyard Bible Club the week before.

After church we ran to Wal-Mart for some groceries and ended up buying school supplies too. What an experience that was for me. We are sending all of the kids to school this upcoming school year. All of them are excited except for Austin. He still wants to be home schooled. We told him it is just for one year. I need a break and want to recharge myself. It was so strange to have to follow someone else's list. I see all of the stuff they "need" as a bunch of crap, but we will supply it for them. We only got stuff for Hannah and Matthew because we know for sure what school they are going to. We still don't know for sure if Rebeckah and Austin are going to get to go to school where we want them to attend. We have put in for an out of district transfer for Rebeckah and Austin and we are waiting to hear from the school to hear if they are in or not.

Rebeckah is not thrilled we are transferring her to another school. She loves the school she went to this past year and made a lot of friends. We, on the other hand, were not happy with that school. The school we want her to go to will have a total of 12 students in the 7th grade. The only thing that appeals to her is the fact that they offer guitar lessons as an elective.

Today was a cleaning day. The kids didn't enjoy that, but too bad! It needed to be done.

I sent him for milk....

Thursday Chris called on his way home from work to ask if there was anything I needed from the store. I told him we need milk, so he said he would stop at Wal-Mart and get some milk. When he got home he didn't have any milk, instead he came home with a Wii. Needless to say the kids were VERY excited. They played all night. I love the system because they have to get up and move! Chris and I had a lot of fun playing it too.

Backyard Bible Club 2007

This past week was the week of Backyard Bible Clubs. BYBC is our church’s version of VBS. It is led by the teens 8th grade to 12th grade in teams of 5 at host homes instead of at the church. Each team goes to 4 clubs a day at 9:00, 10:45, 5:45 and 7:15. This year we had 50 clubs. We had a good turnout….10 kids plus our 3 so we had 13 kids total. The kids had a blast. Wednesday was “Wet Wednesday” and boy was it wild and exhausting. We had the kids stay after the club and swim. I am sunburned and wiped out. Summer Fest was on Friday. Summer Fest is a big carnival at our church where all of the clubs get together.
